Season Championship This Saturday!! PDF Print E-mail
Teacher Appreciation Night and Season Championship This Saturday!

For Immediate Release
Lebanon, MO; The 2010 Monster Energy Chase for the Cup
at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway is coming down to the wire
with several points battles to be decided Saturday Night.
Saturday night will also be Teacher Appreciation Night with
free grandstand admission for all teachers.

Rolla’s Mike Slone took over the point lead in the Late Model
division on Saturday night over veteran Ken Dickinson and
holds a 104 point lead over the multi time track champion.
Dickinson has had a great season to this point and held a 41
point advantage going into the races last Saturday night when
a mechanical problem took him out of the feature. Slone took
advantage of Dickinson’s troubles and took over the points lead
with his runner up finish in the feature. Slone has had a magnificent
rookie season in the Late Models with four wins and several top
three finishes this season.

Jason Otto of Richland looks to be well on his way to another track
championship, this time in the Modifieds. Otto has won back to back
feature events to extend his points lead over veteran Brian Brown
from 31 to 113 points. Brown and Otto have been the two dominant
cars in the Modified division week in and week out, with almost 10
wins between the two of them. The Modified season championship
would be Otto’s second on asphalt at I-44 Speedway, as he is a former
Bomber Champion on the asphalt.

Payton “the kid” Lucas has upped his point lead over veteran Steve
Shaw in the Pure Street division with his three consecutive wins in
the Pure Street division. Lucas is looking for his first track championship
at I-44 Speedway and would be the youngest ever to accomplish that
feat at 14 years old. Dale Roper, Jr. has clinched his first track championship
at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway by winning the title in the Coca Cola Street
Stock division. Roper, Jr.’s track championship adds to his family’s storied
history at the speedway, where his father, Dale Roper, Sr. has won several
track championships as well as his late cousin, Tony Roper, who was the
1989 Late Model Rookie of the year. Gary Davenport has clinched the first
ever Charger championship, and done it in grand style by winning the
Charger feature on Saturday night. Davenport has been in racing for many
years, including racing some on dirt at I-44 Speedway in Legends cars.

The OMSRA Mini Stocks will also make their final appearance of the season on
the high banks, with Ashley Deschacnes looking to make it back to back feature
wins in the blue Pinto. Gates will open at 5:00, hot laps at 6:00 and racing at 7:30.
Grandstand tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for juniors (ages 11-15) and free for kids
10 and under. Admission to the Budweiser Wild Side is $12 for adults, $7 for juniors
and free for kids 10 and under. There is a $2 military and senior citizen discount for
seniors 62 and over. Please visit www.i44speedway.net, twitter.com/i44speedway,

Baltzell Dominates for First Late Model Win

For Immediate Release
Lebanon, MO; The Monster Energy Chase for the Cup entered
week 14 of 16 at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway on Saturday night
with the point’s battles getting tighter each turn.  The 14th week
also brought new hope to the Late Model drivers, all looking to get
in as many races as possible for the ASA National Championship
Standings, which takes your best 14 finishes on the season.

Robert Baltzell and Jim Vanzandt brought the Late Model to the
green flag for the start of their 30 lap feature. Baltzell would grab
the early lead, as the racing behind him was fast and furious with
point leader Ken Dickinson, Mike Slone and Tony Jackson, Jr. all
fighting their way to the front. Slone would get through the traffic
first with Jackson and Dickinson following him through. Jackson’s bid
for two wins in a row would be cut short as he would have to retire
before the midpoint of the feature with mechanical issues. Dickinson
and Slone would go to battle for the second position as Baltzell pulled
away up front. Baltzell cruised to his first Late Model win as Slone held
off Dickinson’s final charge on the last lap to take home second and gain
ground on Dickinson’s point lead.

Jason Otto came into the night with a 30 point lead in the Modified division,
trying to hold off a red hot Brian Brown. Otto would grab the early lead in the
Modified feature from front row starters Rocky Rash and Terry Taylor, trying to
check out on the field to pad his points lead. Brown tried to follow Otto
through traffic, but a loose race car stopped his forward progress. Otto would
jump out to a commanding lead over second place Ken Dickinson before a late
race caution for the spin of Modified Rookie, Mike Coryell, would bunch the field
back up. Otto took off on the restart and never looked back, returning to victory
lane for the first time in several weeks. Dickinson would come home second,
Taylor third, Kyle Steffens fourth, and Brown would round out the top five.

Jimmy Poindexter and Larry Hunter would lead the Charger field to the green
flag for their feature, as the field immediately commenced to three and four
wide racing. Caston Jones would make his way through traffic and jump out the
lead with Jason Otto and Brent Murphy hot on his rear bumper. Murphy was
gaining ground on the leader when he spun near the halfway point to bring out
the caution flag. Murphy would have to restart at the rear of the field, but would
immediately resume his charge to the front. Jones held on to the lead as the field
took the white flag, with Murphy charging hard in his mirror. Murphy would dive
to the bottom of turn four on the last lap with Jones holding his ground on the high
line as the two drag raced to the finish line. Jones held off Murphy for the win with
Jason Otto coming home third, Poindexter fourth and Josh Arl rounding out the top five.

The Chargers were also the featured the division in the Carget Motors Dash for Cash,
with the cars starting “Indy 500” style in rows of three. Shawn Jones would jump out
to the early lead and would hold off a furious charge from the rest of the field to take
home the cash, in the frantic and somehow caution free dash. Brent Murphy came
home second, with Caston Jones late race charge coming up a little short in third.

Dale Roper, Jr. took home another victory in the Coca Cola Street Stocks, holding off
a late race charge from Rob White to take home the trophy. White would come home
second, with veteran Tom Claus coming home in third. Steve Shaw jumped out the
early lead in the Pure Street feature, looking to cut into point leader Payton Lucas’
point lead. Lucas would catch Shaw on the final lap, and would make his charge going
into the final turn of the race. Shaw held the top, while Lucas dove to the bottom in turn
four. Lucas got the car to stick, passing Shaw coming out of turn four to take home back to
back wins in the Pure Streets. Shaw would come home second while Mike Scott would
settle for third.

Chrissy Wallace will be making a special appearance at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway on
Saturday night for Military Appreciation Night at the Speedway. Wallace will be on hand
to race and sign autographs along with a 100,000 penny scramble for all children, and free
grandstand admission for all active military! Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with hot laps at
6:00 and racing at 7:30. Adult grandstand tickets are $10, $7 for juniors, and free for all
children 10 and under. Admission to tier Parking on the Budweiser Wild Side is $12 for
adults, $7 for juniors and free for children ages 10 and under. There is also a $2 discount
